I did it! I finally finished the second quilt for baby girl #2, and right in time. The sewing group I am involved in met on Friday night. Before I went there though, I was convinced I wouldn't have enough satin binding for blanket #2, so I took a quick trip to Joann's to pick up another.
Of course, I thought it would be easy to remember the number of the binding I got before....ha....hahahahahahah....but it was heartbreaking when I realized the color binding I got this time around was so much darker than the binding I got originally. I did also pick up some satin pins, thinking I would see how these worked with the binding instead of the hair clips I used before.
These are extra fine satin pins, and I did end up bending the first before getting the hang of how much pressure to use when pinning. Before I would start crying completely at the darker binding, I decided to break open the first binding and start pinning it in place to see how much more I would need to get the next day.
Praise God, it was just enough. And when I say it was just enough, I mean, I had enough to overlay the beginning by about 2 inches, instead of the 6+ inches I was convinced I would be short on!!
So thankfully, I was able to finish the baby quilt on Friday night and relax the rest of the weekend.
- If you need more binding, take a picture of the original binding container before you go, so you have the exact color number.
- the satin pins worked amazing with the binding! I was afraid they might tug on the binding and fray it, but the extra fine pins worked fantastic.
- I need to work more on consistency on my speed. I found a few places where the stitches were either very close together or very far apart, based probably on the amount of pressure I was holding the quilt.
- practice will eventually make perfect, and I can't wait for my next project!
